My Distractive Pop Plans
With all that’s currently going on in my life right now, I welcome all the productive (and relatively healthy) distractions I can come up with. I previously said I wouldn’t let my Funko Pop Collection get over the 300 mark. Well, it looks like I’m going to blow past that mark very soon as I have around 280 or Pops currently in my collection with more on pre-order and/or on my wishlist. I have also realized that I’ve completely lost track of the damn things as the ID #s I was using to keep track of everything have gotten all messed up and are now, more or less, meaningless. My current database is out of date with some entries out of date, mistyped, duplicated, or just plain wrong. I need to create a brand new and improved database with a new and improved ID number system. I thought about using the order in which I procured the Pops as their ID numbers but if I sell one and delete it from the database, that would put them all out of order wouldn’t it? I need something better than that.
There is also the boxes conundrum that I’ve never really dealt with before. I have boxes stored here and there but I have no record of where any particular Pop’s box is. If I want to find a Pop’s box for some reason, I have to look everywhere to find it. So that’s a problem I need to solve too. Maybe if I get all the boxes together then put them back again but this time making a record of where each box is and then put that in the new database. Any type of system is better than the lack of any system I have now.
I would also like to take new photos of all the individual Pops. Yeah, that will be a huge undertaking but I think it will be worthwhile. This time, rather than take photos of them where ever there is a clear space, I want to setup a little stage and have all the Pop photos have the same background and lighting. I’ll need to decide on what kind of little stage to build that would bring out the best in all of the Pops. I won’t be able to take all the photos of every Pop in a single day, obviously, being that there are so many. I’ll have to do this over the course of a few days. What good is a collection of anything if you don’t properly display it?
I don’t really plan to rearrange the Pops themselves much as most of them are still right where I want them. I do want to make a bit more room for future Pops though. I’m going to move another level of books off the bookshelf I keep all of my Star Wars Pops on to another bookshelf entirely so I have room for more Star Wars Pops. I’ll be putting all of my Mandalorian series Pops on the newly opened up shelf. That means I’ll be needing to get more foam blocks to build more risers too… I already knew I needed to buy at least one pack of foam blocks to build a new riser or two for a different area. I’m most likely going to need a new shelf for my Marvel Pops too. That means measuring my wall space again to see what I have room for and the figuring out how many foam blocks I need for that future shelf space.
I need to do a bit of reorganizing to how I display my Pops on this website as I noticed my Marvel Pops page now has 100 or more Pops on it which is greatly increasing its load time. I need to break it up into at least two pages but I haven’t decided exactly how yet. I may need to do the same with the Star Wars Pop page as well as it too is getting a little too full as well.
I have already started on my plans as of yesterday. I created and filled a new database with new ID numbers for all of my Pops. I apparently have a total of 290 Pops in my collection which includes pre-ordered Pops that haven’t physically arrived yet. Now I need to sort all those Pop boxes. I already made a space in the database form for “box location” for each Pop where I’ll record the location of each Pop’s box. Now I just need to figure out how to sort the boxes and exactly where to put them after I sort them. I also need to build that stage for the new individual Pop photos and create new stickers with the new ID numbers to put on each Pop as I photograph them. I’ll try to get started on the boxes tonight or tomorrow. I also need make a list of what supplies I need and pick that up tomorrow as well (new stickers, foam blocks, whatever I need for the stage, etc.).
So much to do!
